“Any questions?” “Is everybody with me?” When we ask students these vague types of questions, we are often met with silence. Does that mean that everything is clear and understood? Do they really understand or are they suffering from what Kruger and Dunning (1998) refer to as “overconfidence bias”? Or are they just too afraid to ask a question in front of their classmates? In this workshop, we will discuss better alternatives for assessing student learning – techniques that are simple and require minimal preparation and class time.
