Professional Development Program

The University Graduate School offers a suite of programs and individual events that are aimed at enhancing graduate student training and experience outside the classroom. It focuses both on transferrable skills and on an essential toolkit for succeeding in diverse careers after graduation. We encourage students to take advantage of these programs and use them as a getaway to other campus resources and partners.

Graduate Student Resources

Academy of Leaders: Graduate Students Track

AOL provides full day in-person and online sessions dedicated to training, professional development, teamwork and more, to bolster leadership skills in FIU graduate students.

FIU in DC/Talent Lab


Offers a 3-day Fly-In Seminar to FIU’s offices in Washington D.C., internship opportunities, courses, and a scholarship. FIU in DC focuses on the relationship between Federal policymaking and FIU operations.

Career and Talent Development


CTD offers services from choosing a major to in-industry networking, career events, resume writing and critiques, and more. CTD also schedules events and seminars on a weekly basis, including presentations on interviewing, career guides, and more. 

Center for Excellence in Writing


The Center for Excellence in Writing offers both walk-in and appointment tutoring sessions, aimed at helping students at all levels and all stages of their writing, which includes everything from Master’s theses to Doctoral dissertations and proposals.

Library


The University’s libraries offer an extensive, always-online catalog of books, journal articles, videos, and other materials available online or at various FIU locations, like the Green Library and Law Library. They also support graduate research in person and online through LibGuides.

Healthy Living Program


The HLP offers both walk-in and appointment-based services designed to promote a healthy lifestyle within the student body. Provides aromatherapy, massage therapy, stress and time management services, and more. 

Financial Wellness Program


The Financial Wellness Program offers one-on-one Financial Wellness coaching, Workshops, and the iGradFinancial Literacy platform to all FIU alum who want a better understanding of financial health and safety. iGradaccess is provided through the Financial Wellness front page. 

Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT)


CAT provides workshops, seminars, courses, and consultations for Alum that plan to become educators. CAT schedules regular weekly, and bi-weekly workshops covering emergent topics in education, on topics like inclusive and innovative teaching. 

StartUP FIU


StartUP FIU offers student entrepreneurship and research commercialization services that focus on making FIU alum active, industrious candidates for industry positions. StartUP FIU schedules industry-focused events on a semi-regular monthly basis. 

The Communication Studio


The Communication Studio assists FIU students and faculty with their presentation needs. Students can make one-on-one and group appointments with a peer coach to receive feedback on their presentations. Students can also can get professional coaching to improve their public speaking and interview skills.
