Strong mentoring relationships are key to a successful graduate experience. Effective mentoring is built through open communication, clear expectations, and an active partnership between students and their mentors. Students are also encouraged to build a network of mentors who can offer different perspectives, expertise, and support as their academic, professional, and career goals evolve. The resources below can help you strengthen your mentoring relationships and make the most of your graduate journey.

FIU Annual Doctoral Evaluation
For FIU doctoral students, the Annual Student Evaluation and Mentoring Plan provides an important opportunity to discuss your progress, accomplishments, goals, and next steps with your Major Professor. Rather than viewing the evaluation simply as an annual requirement, students are encouraged to use the process as a meaningful mentoring conversation – an opportunity to clarify expectations, celebrate progress, identify areas where additional support may be helpful, and develop a shared roadmap for the year ahead.
