Microaggressions: A conversation to define and explore how they infiltrate our daily experiences?

June 18, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Microaggressions are briefly defined as subtle types of verbal, behavioral, or environmental discrimination that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative insults to persons who identify with marginalized and/or oppressed groups. In this workshop, you will be invited to explore how microaggressions can be present, and often unnoticed, in daily interactions among faculty/staff and in the classroom when interacting with students. A discussion will be lead on how to navigate the fragile terrain created when a microaggression occurs and will culminate on ways to validate these experiences and create safer spaces for ourselves and our students.
