Each institution may send two graduate students for the Three-Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition and two graduate students per category for poster presentations at the Statewide Graduate Research Symposium. The categories are:
- Arts & Humanities
- Engineering
- Health & Life Sciences
- Physical Life Sciences & Mathematics
- Social & Behavioral Sciences
E-mail notifications will be sent out the week of April 8, 2019 detailing presentation location and times for all participants; additional details will be provided at that time.

Statewide Graduate Research Symposium
The Statewide Graduate Research Symposium celebrates and recognizes the outstanding scholarly accomplishments of Florida graduate students. This event highlights the importance of graduate education and research and their role in promoting knowledge.
The Statewide Graduate Research Symposium will take place in the SASC building, Room 100, on Thursday, April 18, 2019.
Guidelines:
- Abstracts must be no longer than 250 words
- Posters must be no larger than 36” X 48”
- Easels and foam core boards will be provided for poster presenters
- Poster session will be 1 hour and 45 minutes long
About (3MT®)
The 3MT® competition challenges graduate students to summarize their research within three minutes to a general audience. The University of Queensland developed the contest in 2008 to help graduate students improve their oral communication skills. The competition is presently held at universities worldwide.
The competition will take place in the Graham Center (GC) 243 on Thursday, April 18, 2019.
Rules:
- A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted (no slide transitions, animations or ‘movement’ of any description, the slide is to be presented from the beginning of the oration)
- No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted
- No additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted
- Presentations are limited to 3 minutes maximum and competitors exceeding 3 minutes are disqualified
- Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g. no poems, raps or songs)
- Presentations are to commence from the stage
- Presentations are considered to have commenced when a presenter starts their presentation through movement or speech
- The decision of the adjudicating panel is final
Important Information
- Only presentations from graduate students will be judged on-site and be eligible for recognition, which will be announced on the afternoon of Thursday, April 18, 2019
- The Three-Minute Thesis™ Competition will take place in the Graham Center (GC) 243 on Thursday, April 18, 2019
- The Statewide Research Symposium will take place in the SASC building, Room 100, on Thursday, April 18, 2019; easels and foam core boards will be made available for poster presenters
